What affects the viscosity of HPMC?

As you know, there are so many different types of HPMC on the market, and the viscosity could be from 400mPa.s to 200,000mPa.s, but there are two things that affect the viscosity, and they are the size of the molecular weight, and the temperature.

1. The size of the molecular weight.

The larger the molecular weight is, the higher the viscosity is, and we could control the size of the molecular weight of HPMC in the production process to make the different type of HPMC for you

2. The temperature.

As the temperature increases, the viscosity decreases, and this is why we need to test the viscosity in the lab under the same temperature, otherwise, the test results will be different.

Please note that the viscosity of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose is less affected by the temperature than Methyl Cellulose, and its solution is stable in storage at room temperature.
